CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The U.S. Transportation Department is withholding a report on millions in grant money earmarked for a transportation research center at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the agency cited the federal Freedom of Information Act for withholding the information. It's unclear if the report will be released.

The state Legislative Audit Council was awaiting the report to complete its investigation although council's director Tom Berdin says the agency will proceed with its study. But that report will now only cover part of the center funding.
