SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Police in Spartanburg are pushing a new program to make people more aware of pedestrian safety.

The city and Public Safety Department on Monday are discussing an effort that starts with educating people about how to keep pedestrians safe and the enforcement of laws affecting pedestrians.

City officials are also giving out about 4,000 reflective wrist bands to pedestrians and cyclists as part of the "Reflect for Safety" initiative.

Organizers hope people in Spartanburg will learn more about the safety of walkers, joggers and pedestrians with disabilities. This includes pedestrians who are hearing impaired, blind or in wheelchairs.
