HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WACH, WHNS, AP) -- Rescue crews continued their search for a missing hiker Wednesday morning.Friends say 29-year-old Kristy Thornbrew of Florence, S.C., left a small cabin in hopes of seeing sunrise from a mountaintop near Bat Cave
Crews spent much of Tuesday combing the rugged terrain on foot and from the air but said they found no sign of Thornbrew. They said they are worried about Thornbrew's safety because she is by herself and the area is extremely remote.Thornbrew's family said she would never run away. They said they are worried something has happened to her."It's like her to go watch the sunrise, but it's not like her to disappear," said Mark Carmichael, Thornbrew's fiancee.Officials said Thornbrew was last at Pinnacle Point and called her family about 9 a.m. Monday and said she was headed down the mountain.Thronbrew has long brown hair and was last seen wearing a long rainbow skirt with glitter on it, a gray, zippered sweatshirt and a purple hat.Anyone with information on Thornbrew's whereabouts was asked to call the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office.
