GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a former Berkeley County sheriff's deputy and his son have been arrested in a video poker crackdown.

Deputies say 66-year-old Chester Grady Howell Jr. and 42-year-old Chester Norman Howell were each charged Tuesday with unlawful games and betting, unlawful gaming tables and unlawful keeping of gaming machines.

Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt says the father formerly worked as a deputy and also served as a Goose Creek police officer.

In March, DeWitt said 18 people were arrested and gaming machines were seized in a raid on Chester Howell Jr.'s coffee shop. Deputies put the area under surveillance until they found more video poker and other gaming machines.

It was not clear if either man has an attorney. South Carolina outlawed video poker in 2000.
