About 7,000 participants expected for spring mud run.
COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Due to the annual fall Mud Run’s popularity, the Greater Columbia Marine Association is holding a spring event on April 16, 2011. This will be first time a mud run is held in the spring.
“It’s very exciting adding a spring event now because people have been asking for it for several years, so they have the chance to come out and do it,” said William Toomey, manager of the mud run course.
Participating teams will tackle a 5.2 mile obstacle course, wallowing in the mud the entire way. The spring mud run is the second event on the new course. Organizers say there are three new obstacles that will give participants a run for the money.
“A lot of participants said last year it (the race) was a lot better. It wasn't bottlenecked. It flowed a lot better for people to run the course; instead of waiting at obstacles for people to finish. Most of the obstacles they had the opportunity to complete it when they got to it,” Toomey said.
Money raised from the event will benefit Marine veterans and their families in the Midlands in the way of scholarships.
The mud run is also looking for volunteers to work at the race. Click here to sign up or volunteer your time.
