COLUMBIA (WACH) -- USC students as well as folks here in the Midlands came out to participate in the Fidler 5K event Saturday afternoon.

The annual walk is held in honor of Dr. Paul Fidler.

He worked on campus for 35 years before losing his life to leukemia.

Organizers say with cancer being a major killer in the United States they hope money raised will bring them one step closer to finding a cure.

“We really wanted to get the community involved this year because it is such a great cause. We really want to just help those who are struggling," says event organizer Lee Blackmon.

All proceeds from the event will be given to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
