CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- State police say a former worker with the South Carolina Department of Transportation has been charged with using a state-issued credit card to spend tens of thousands of dollars on herself.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 52-year-old Denise L. Johnson of Conway was arrested Wednesday and charged with breach of trust.

Police say Johnson used a state credit card to buy more than $53,000 worth of goods for herself between July 2009 and January of this year. SLED says they believe Johnson used some of the money to make upgrades to her house.

Horry County jail records show Johnson posted a $10,000 bond and was released Wednesday night. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.
