COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Families in need in South Carolina are getting some help from Feed the Children.
The group plans to deliver two tractor-trailers full of goods Friday to the Columbia Housing Authority, which has identified families designated to get the boxes.
Feed the Children spokesman Tony Sellars says the number of impoverished children in South Carolina exceeds 230,000.
The families are getting a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of personal care items and a box of Avon products.
The boxes are expected to help about 400 families meet their needs for about a week.
Sellars says many families getting the aid were considered middle class just a short time ago and are getting assistance for the first time in their lives.
