LIBERTY (FOX Carolina) -- An Upstate principal placed on administrative leave earlier this year was arrested Wednesday.

Gilstrap was charged with embezzlement of public funds, breach of trust with fraudulent intent and financial transaction card fraud.

According to the arrest warrants, Gilstrap diverted money meant for the school and the school district between November 2008 and February.

Gilstrap and Buea DeNard, the school's financial secretary, were both placed on leave in February while the financial records of the school were being reviewed.

Gilstrap has worked for the school district since December 1980.
