COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has recognized a Spartanburg woman as the state's mother of the year.

The governor presented Marianna Black Habisreutinger with a certificate and pin during a ceremony Monday at the State House in Columbia.

A former elementary school teacher, Habisreutinger is a founder and trustee of a foundation for a center for mentally and physically handicapped people. She also serves on the boards for Spartanburg Methodist College and the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties Inc.

Habisreutinger also served as president of the Junior League of Spartanburg and a member of the board of visitors for the Medical University of South Carolina.

Habisreutinger will represent the state in a national competition later this month in Salt Lake City.
