MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. ( WACH, AP) -- South Carolina's Army and Air National Guard are holding a military and family appreciation day featuring fly-overs, equipment displays, live music and games for children.

South Carolina Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston said Saturday's event recognizes the significant role families play in supporting the state's 1,500 airmen and 10,000 soldiers. He says families help them prepare for deployments, sustain them while deployed, and support them upon their return.

About 5,000 to 8,000 people are expected to attend.

The event at McEntire Joint National Guard Base near Eastover is closed to the public. A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will be on view and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team will perform.
