Lucky 7 No. 2 Store

GADSDEN (WACH, AP) -- A Richland County grocery store is being asked by health officials to stop stocking raccoon meat.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control says inspectors found bags of the meat at the Lucky Seven No. 2 store on Bluff Rd. in Gadsden. Officials found the meat on two separate inspections.
DHEC spokesman Thom Berry explains raccoon meat is not certified by state and federal meat inspectors as being safe for humans.
Officials required the store to throw away the meat. Berry said DHEC is considering taking action against the store.
A clerk was unwilling to talk about the situation over the phone. WACH Fox News has a crew at the store this morning.
WACH Fox News found several hunting websites that say when prepared correctly, raccoon meat from the wild is safe to eat and tastes similar to pork. We even came across some recipes.
