COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for Fairfield, Kershaw and Lee counties through Tuesday morning.
The main concern along with cold temperatures will be frost. It's also recommended that pets be brought inside or placed in a warm location.
"This has the potential to damage or kill tender plants across the northern Midlands," says SkyWACH Weather Anchor Justin Kier. "Historically, it's not out of the question to get a wedge setup that gives us a cold spell before Easter."
The cold temperatures are highly dependent on low level clouds moving out of the area during the overnight. If the clouds linger, temperatures will stay above freezing.
The rest of the Midlands will see temperatures drop into the mid to upper 30s. Freeze warnings have been issued for parts of the upstate where colder temperatures will invade.
"This is something South Carolina farmers and backyard growers are becoming accustomed to," says Kier. "It seems like Mother Nature likes to hold one or two last season cold blasts for growers."
