COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Columbia is launching a citywide initiative to get residents reading and talking about the same book.

A news conference kicking off the One Book, One Columbia program will be held Monday.

Mayor Steve Benjamin, city council members and representatives from the Richland County Library, State Library and Richland School District 1 will discuss the details of the program designed to give the community a shared reading experience.

Between April 1 and May 14, residents are invited to read the first designated book, "Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years" by Sarah L. Delany and Elizabeth Delany with Amy Hill Hearth.

Several book discussion programs and other activities centered around the book are planned.
