COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Walking for a better heart.

Saturday morning hundreds took part in the American Heart Association's 13th Annual Heart Walk.

It all started at the Colonial Center and folks made their way along Gervais Street and other areas in downtown and The Vista.

Organizers say Cardiovascular Disease is the number one killer of all Americans and that someone dies from CVD every 38 seconds.

Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined and congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects.

WACH Fox Anchor Janet Parker emceed the event.
