CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A Charleston woman has been shot to death as she was washing dishes in her home.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton says that 45-year-old Gwendolyn Fields died after she was shot several times Monday morning.

Police spokesman Charles Francis says 34-year-old Arthur F. Peterson Jr. is charged with murder and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

Francis says officers were at the home on a domestic call when the shooting occurred. He would not say who called police.

Larry Fields says his sister was shot as she was washing dishes. He says Peterson had been upset when he couldn't find the victim earlier.

It was unclear if Peterson has an attorney. He is being held in the Charleston County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
