COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Committee and the Women, Minority & Small Business Council hosted a luncheon Tuesday in honor of an Iraqi Women's Delegation.

Members of the community paid tribute to four women who were among the first female officers to graduate from training in the Iraqi police force and who are serving alongside U.S. soldiers.

It is part of a celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day.

Mayor Steve Benjamin presented a proclamation to the female officers on behalf of the City.

Gen. George Goldsmith, Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee, said, "we wanted to bring some of the females from Iraq over to the United States and see how we train people and see how the military operates and just really try to build relationships between US and folks from Iraq and Afghanistan."
