COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A sales tax break that was part of the state's economic development deal with Amazon.com for a $100 million Lexington County distribution facility is being scrutinized by Gov. Nikki Haley.
Haley said Friday that she's asking questions about promises made in a December deal that would bring nearly 1,250 jobs when Amazon builds the distribution center.
Part of the deal involved getting the Legislature revive a sales tax break that makes sure companies like Amazon and QVC don't collect state sales taxes on goods shipped from their distribution centers. That law expired in June.
Retailers don't want the break renewed, saying it gives the distributors an unfair advantage.
Haley said she doesn't want the state to break promises but she also wants to be fair to businesses that are already here.
