COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Rate reduction notices will go out to South Carolina Medicaid providers next week.

Department of Health and Human Services Director Anthony Keck said Friday that will allow the state to begin implementing lower reimbursement rates in April.

Keck says the program can save $6 million through the end of June in lower reimbursements and drug costs.

The agency does not have final approval from the Legislature to reduce rates although the Senate approved legislation Thursday that will permit that. Keck and Gov. Nikki Haley said Friday they expect the House will go along with the changes.

House budget writers included $125 million in payment reductions to Medicaid providers in the spending plan they sent to the full House on Thursday.
