COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Obama administration says it will no longer defend the constitutionality of a federal law that bans same sex marriage.
A spokesman says the President has concluded the administration can no longer defend the federal law that defines marriage as a union only between a man and a woman. The Justice Department had defended the Defense of Marriage Act in court until now.
A spokesman for South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson says, "South Carolina passed a constitutional amendment in 2006 defining marriage as being between one man and one woman. Should that be challenged in any way, it will be vigorously defended by this office."
