Free cell phones and minutes to low income residents

WACH Fox News Center covers stories around the Midlands and across the state 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A cell phone provider is giving away free phones and talk time to low income residents across the state.

Assurance Wireless, a service from Virgin Mobile, is giving away a free wireless phone and 250 monthly minutes of service to eligible customers.

Residents who participate in Medicaid, food stamps and other programs are eligible.
