COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The non-profit organization known as COR or Columbia Opportunity Resource is rallying young professionals to get involved in the community.

It was standing room only on Thursday evening at the COR launch party held at EdVenture Children’s Museum.

COR was formed in 2005.  The organization took a brief hiatus last year to re-organize and is now focused on helping the area’s emerging leaders make connections through civic involvement.

COR hopes to get even more people involved with its “Give 11 in 2011” campaign.

“We're asking people to give 11 hours of community service, start a dialogue with 11 people, donate 11 dollars, those kinds of things in 2011,” says COR chairwoman Chakisse Newton.

Mayor Steve Benjamin announced at the launch party that February 11 will be COR Day in the City of Columbia.  It was Benjamin’s first proclamation since taking office.
