5 Haley Cabinet appointees get Senate approval

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's nominees to head five Cabinet agencies have won final approval.

The state Senate on Thursday approved former judge Bill Byars to run the Corrections Department. He spent eight years at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Lillian Koller will run the Department of Social Services. She used run Hawaii's welfare agency.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Robert St. Onge will lead the Department of Transportation.

Former Army Col. Kevin Shwedo will run the Department of Motor Vehicles. Shwedo retired last week.

Bob Toomey will run the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services. Toomey had run Medicaid health plans at the state Department of Health and Human Services.
