COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The SkyWACH Weather Team has been forecasting all week for a wintry mix to hit the Midlands this morning. That wintry mix is here, and as forecasted is not sticking to the streets.
The speed of this system along with warm surface temps means that anything that falls will be limited to grassy surfaces and bridges and overpasses. Infact, any snow that does accumulate on grassy surfaces will melt by this afternoon with temps rebounding into the mid 40s under a partly cloudy sky.
"The storm is a quick mover with limited moisture. That means snowfall rates will be low and accumulations will be pretty modest," SkyWACH Weather Anchor Justin Kier explains.
The best potential for accumulation remains in Newberry, Fairfield and Kershaw counties.
Over a dozen states are currently under some type of weather alert. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday afternoon for the Midlands.
As always, if you have pictures or video of snow you'd like to share, you can send it to mojo@wach.com. We might just share it on-air.
