COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Department of Transportation is taking suggestions on its website from the public on how to improve the Interstate 26 interchange with Interstate 20 in Columbia.

The intersection is called Malfunction Junction by locals and also includes Interstate 126 and St. Andrews Road.

The DOT is considering creating an express lane that would take westbound I-26 motorists who plan to remain on the highway through the interchanges faster.

Transportation officials also may widen I-26 from St. Andrews Road five miles to Broad River Road.

DOT officials say a timetable for construction depends on when the agency gets money for the project.
