COLUMBIA (WACH) -- U.S. Assistant Secretary of Trade Promotion Suresh Kumar spoke to USC students and the public at the Darla Moore School of Business Friday.

The speech centered on the importance of global trade and turning competition into cooperation.  With a recovering economy Kumar believes students aren't facing a lack of opportunities, but instead need to focus on creating their own niche and taking advantage of living in the information age.

"The opportunities are immense," he says.  "We aren't talking about innovative technologies which didn't exist a few years ago.  The industries of tomorrow may be different than the ones we know today, so the students are graduating in a time where so much is happening and we had the president saying as much on Tuesday."

While in the Carolinas, Kumar will meet with school, government and industry leaders to discuss cooperative education for future as well as attend meetings with Governor Haley and South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
