CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Deepening Charleston Harbor, economic development and adding new parks are among the topics for discussion in Charleston Mayor Joe Riley's State of the City address.

Riley makes the annual address during a Tuesday meeting of the city council. It will be broadcast in the Charleston area.

Port officials have been trying to get $400,000 to help pay for a study into deepening the harbor to 50 feet to accommodate bigger ships that will be calling in the future.

The mayor is also expected to discuss plans for renovations to the city's main auditorium.

Last spring, the mayor proposed a $142 makeover of the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium to create a world class performing arts center.
