COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Parking officials in the city of Columbia are considering using boots on cars of repeat parking offenders.
Michelle Ross has lived in Columbia for several years and says she's accumulated her fair share of parking tickets.
"It sucks. I’m like really, another one?" said Ross.
Ross says she doesn’t always pay her fines on time.
"I pay them when I get the late notice, because I forget,” said Ross.
But Ross is not alone - as officials with the city say about 15 percent of the parking tickets they give out are not paid on time.
To combat the problem, the city is thinking of implementing a new parking program that would put a boot on your car if you owe $75 or more in fines.
Ross says she would not have a problem with that.
“If I owed over $75, I guess I would deserve a boot on my car," said Ross.
Others also seem to think the move is a good idea.
"Well I think if you owe the money you ought to pay it," said Debbie McDaniel.
Some say they aren't in favor of the plan.
“I think it’s ridiculous. There’s not enough parking anyway. You know they've got to be making a killing with parking tickets as is, so it’s just trying to make more money," said David Miller.
15-years ago the city had a booting program in place but stopped it after the boots were found to damage cars.
City officials told WACH FOX News if they restart the program, they will use devices that will not damage vehicles.
They say right now they are only considering the idea and the earliest the program would be put into place is the spring.
