COLUMBIA (WACH) -- For the second straight year, Glenforest School Basketball Coach William Knopf walked eight miles without shoes across Columbia. No, he isn't crazy. He did it to raise money and shoes for a good cause.
That cause is Samaritan's Feet, an organization that helps change the lives of children at home and around the world by giving them something to cover their feet.
Knopf had a lot of help with him when he started on Devine Street late Friday afternoon walking to his team's home game. I joined him, along with dozens of others, for part of the trek.
For several years Knopf has been coaching barefoot to highlight the hardships of the underprivileged.
"The goal is still not reached," he explains. "If every coach in the state of South Carolina would go barefoot I think maybe we'd see more results. We have a long way to go, but it's one step at a time and one shoe at a time."
