COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Officials arrested a murder suspect in Columbia late Wednesday night from a shooting after a several month long investigation.

Local state and federal authorities announced Thursday the arrest of 21-year-old Stephon "Step" Greene in connection to the murder of Widley Phylius on October 30.  The shooting happened on Apple Valley Road.

Columbia Police officers, U.S. Marshals, the FBI, SLED and Richland, Lexington and Orangeburg County sheriff's departments all helped take down Greene at the River Oaks Apartments on Bush River Road just before midnight without a struggle.

"Fugitives can run and attempt to hide. However, let it be known the US Marshals will work tirelessly to investigate and bring to justice any fugitive," says Marshal Kevin Washington of the regional US Marshals.  "We will continue to support our law enforcement partners in our communities and look forward to utilizing our talented Deputy Marshals and Task Force Officers in keeping our great state safe".

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott adds that any community member who sees suspicious activity or would like to report a crime should call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
