COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- South Carolina senators will discuss a constitutional amendment and other bills that would loosen centuries-old gambling laws that bar friendly poker games and charity raffles.
About the only legal gambling in South Carolina now is run by the state through its lottery.
On Tuesday the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to take up S. 256 a bill aimed at making the Palmetto State's 1802 antigambling laws a little less strict.
Those laws currently ban any game that involves cards or dice.
Lawmakers who favor changing the laws say that right now, they could be interpreted to bar common family games like Sorry, Monopoly and Yahtzee.
