Service fraternity to honor King by laying wreath

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A fraternity that emphasizes leadership and public service plans to honor Martin Luther King Jr. by laying a wreath near a Columbia park.

The Alpha Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will honor the slain civil rights leader by placing the wreath near the entrance to Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.

The ceremony begins a celebration of King's life, which will include a speech from Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin. Benjamin is Columbia's first black mayor.
