SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Summerville has approved a ban on indoor smoking in most businesses in the Charleston suburb.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports there were shouts and cheers from the audience Wednesday when Mayor Berlin Myers voted in favor, breaking a 3-to-3 deadlock to pass the ordinance.

Councilman Walter Bailey called the ordinance "another nail in the coffin of freedom of choice."

Councilman Mike Dawson says freedoms have limits and people are not free to bring harm to others through secondhand smoke.
