COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The South Carolina National Guard is promoting its first female general officer later this week.

Colonel Darlene Goff will be promoted at a special ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday at the National Guard Complex on Bluff Rd.

She will serve as assistant adjutant general and as vice chief of the Joint Staff for the state's military.

Goff, who's been with the military since 1977, was most recently human resources director for the National Guard.
