COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Gas prices took a big jump over the holiday weekend.

According to ColumbiaGasPrices.com, the current average for the cost of a gallon of unleaded is at $2.87.

That's up 9 cents over the previous week and up 5 cents since Christmas Eve.

South Carolina also fell in the national ranking or states with the lowest average.  Last week the Palmetto State was in 5th place overall.  This week, we sit at 7th with a statewide average of $2.85.

Western states hold down the top six slots.
