COLUMBIA (WACH) -- An early Christmas delivery in Columbia is sprucing up the lives of Capital City seniors and raising a debate over how to increase cash flow in these tough times.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer gave the Capital Senior Center a check for $112,000 Wednesday morning.
The improvement grant comes from community money, licensing fees and the state bingo tax, which means gambling dollars helped pay for the program.
Because of the economy, Bauer says the public may be more open to expanding gambling to increase state revenue, but don't count on video poker to become a reality anytime soon.
"I don't think the legislature is at a point where they're willing to do that," Bauer explains. "You've got a situation where they're going to look at a lot of creative things for budget. I don't think that will be it, but I could be wrong."
The Permanent Improvement Program Grant is designed to finance capital improvements at senior centers and other facilities service the senior community.
