COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Four area companies are being recognized for boosting the local economy.

EasyHRWeb, Accellerations Educational Software, Quintesocial and Hermosa Jewelry will be honored Tuesday for graduating from the USC-Columbia Technology Incubator.

The mission of that program is to support local start-up companies and employ highly skilled workers.

The newly formed companies learn to grow in the incubator and be successful on their own.

"Incubating your own business, supporting them, locally grown, people who do not just have a financial attachment but an emotional attachment to this community is huge," Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin explains.  "It starts with intellectual property you can begin to commercialize and that is exactly what we are seeing here today."

The four companies join 27 companies that already graduated from the incubator.
