COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says authorities discovered a dead body in a burning car around 8:30 pm Sunday.

Jenkins says fire crews were called to Percival Road, near the I-77 east ramp where they found the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was put out, the body of 20-year-old Layla Gumati of Columbia was discovered.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Gumati died from probable smoke inhalation, however test results are not in at this time.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues their investigation.
