Ex-Gov. Riley, Hootie drummer honored at luncheon

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former South Carolina Gov. Dick Riley is among the honorees at an awards luncheon for alumni of the Leadership South Carolina program.

Riley, Columbia attorney Craig Garner and Jim Sonefeld, drummer for Hootie & The Blowfish are being honored Friday in Columbia.

Riley also served as U.S. Secretary of Education under President Bill Clinton. Garner served on the board of Leadership South Carolina from 1996 to 2006 and was its chairman for five years.

Sonefeld is president of the Animal Mission and works with several other charities in the Columbia area.

Leadership South Carolina was established in 1979 to help highly motivated South Carolinians advance their leadership skills and broaden their understanding of issues facing the state.
