Columbia (WACH)- A midlands woman can smile after getting some life saving news. We introduced you to Brandy Walker last month. She’s been fighting a rare disorder called LAM disease for years. The 30-year-old struggles for every breath.
But now she says progress is being made and she's hopeful it will save her life.
LAM or lymphangioleiomatosis destroys lung tissue causing cysts. There's no cure. Walker has suffered ten lung collapses. And even worse walker was having trouble getting approved for disability and Medicaid to pay her medical bills.
Walker says, "I was very scared. I felt like they were going to let me die and there was nothing I could do about it."
Walker fought for seven months to get the life saving benefits but was denied.... twice. After her story aired on WACH Fox News her case was reopened. And she was approved.
"Thank you to Fox News and thank you to everyone who helped me. Especially Miss Arielle Riposta, very much thanks."
Walker needs a double lung transplant. She's on a donor wait list.
The benefits she's now receiving will cover that surgery.
