GREENVILLE (FOX Carolina) -- Greenville police said that a dog suffered severe burns after someone pinned it inside its dog house and set it on fire Tuesday afternoon.
The fire happened at a home on Perry Avenue, police said.
Firefighters said that, when they arrived at the scene, they found a dog house knocked over with smoke billowing out. They said that the dog was found inside with a cinder block placed on its head, pinning it.
A witness told police that they saw a man at the home where the fire happened, moments before the smoke was noticed.
Police said that neighbors were familiar with the dog, which was a stray. For now, the veterinarian treating the dog is calling him Pookie.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Greenville Police Department.
