MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Folks along South Carolina's northern coast are swatting and itching more than usual this fall because the warm, wet weather has meant a spike in mosquitoes.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported the problem could linger through the middle of next month when the area generally gets its first freeze.
Officials in both Horry and Georgetown counties say they have been receiving a lot of complaints about the insects.
Horry County workers have been spraying six days a week and using two or three airplanes each night to battle mosquitoes.
They've also been spraying extensively in Georgetown County, where one official says the mosquitoes this fall are the worst in a decade.
