BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- Beaufort County Council has agreed to work on an economic development plan with neighboring Jasper County -- something one leader says could mean 500 jobs in five years.
The Beaufort Gazette reported the council unanimously adopted the resolution Monday and that Jasper County also will consider the idea.
The resolution encourages other local governments to participate in the planning process.
Kim Statler with the Lowcountry Economic Network says a regional plan would help officials set priorities and attract new businesses. The network is a public-private partnership that now works to recruit business.
Statler told the county council it would be reasonable to expect 500 jobs within five years.
