COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Republican gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley took a stand on union elections Thursday.
Haley says she supports a measure on the November ballot that would ensure secret ballots stay secret, meaning workers faced with a vote to unionize could keep their ballot confidential.
She says card checks would discourage businesses from locating to South Carolina.
"Us allowing unions to come in is really going to stop economic development at a time where we're really starting to see it improve," Haley said. "We really see opportunities whether it's the things we want to do through congress, we have got to keep us a right to work state."
Haley's Democratic opponent Senator Vincent Sheheen says he also supports a secret ballot.
