DARLINGTON COUNTY (WPDE) -- Highway Patrol spokesman Sonny Collins says a deputy with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office hit and killed a person standing near a vehicle accident that had just happened.Collins says a two car accident happened just after 3:00 a.m. Friday and several people involved were standing outside on Highway 151 in front of Rick's Pawn Shop near Flynn's Crossroads.
We're told before the people involved in the accident even had time to call 9-1-1, a sheriff's deputy came up on the accident and hit one of the people.
Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says Johnny Clint Floyd, 44, of Timmonsville was pronounced dead at the scene at around 5 a.m. Hardee says Floyd stopped to help people who were involved in the crash when he was hit by the deputy's car.
Highway patrol is not sure if the deputy was heading to the accident or just happened to be driving down the road.
The deputy was in a patrol car at the time of the accident, but we're not sure if he was on duty. We're waiting for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office to release more information.
Highway 151 is shut down from the Division of Motor Vehicles to Rick's Pawn Shop near Hartsville.
