ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) -- There are bats in the roof at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex and local officials are not happy about it.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reported that officials say the droppings of the nocturnal animals are starting to stink up the place.

Anderson County moved a number of employees into an old grocery store less than two years ago.

The bats have their entrance in a hollow concrete section under the roof flashing. Officials guess the bats have been in the building for years.

Nancy Harris in the register of deeds office says she can hear the bats, but at least can close the doors to reduce the odor from the droppings on the sidewalk.

United Wildlife Control plans to visit soon to assess the problem. Getting rid of the bets could cost $2,000.
