CAYCE (WACH) -- A sewer main break is responsible for spilling raw sewage into the Monkey Springs Branch Creek in Cayce.

Interim City Manager Steve Brown says officials found out about the leak near Oakland Avenue around 4 p.m. Monday.

The break happened in the pipe that crosses the water.  Apparently erosion around the sewer-line caused the break and a blockage in the pipe caused the sewage the flow into the creek.

Crews cleared the blockage and restored the flow to the sewer-line.  They're working to finish repairs.

Clean-up is underway and the Department of Health and Environmental Control has been notified.  The amount of sewage is unknown at this time.
