COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A group of Midlands women threw their support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen Monday.

The group says they're celebrating 90 years of women's voting rights by endorsing Sheheen.

Organizers say the easy decision would have been to support the female candidate Nikki Haley, but they say Sheheen will be a better leader.

"We are looking for all the folks here to go out and bring their friends to the polls on November 2 to vote," says event host Rita Paul.

"We need good leadership with a high-level of integrity and I see that in Vincent Sheheen in so many ways," adds Deborah Breedlove, event host.

Sheheen has been backed by Superintendent of Education Jim Rex, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges earlier this year.

Sheheen takes on Republican Nikki Haley and third party candidate Morgan Reeves in November.

Haley was endorsed Monday by anti-abortion group South Carolina Citizens for Life.  She picked up endorsements earlier this year from the South Carolina chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster.
