COLUMBIA (WACH)--October is breast cancer awareness month, and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin kicking off an event to benefit people suffering from the disease.

Friday morning Benjamin hosted the 11th Annual Mayor's Campaign Against Breast Cancer/Isabel Law Breakfast at City Hall.

All proceeds go to Bosom Buddies, a 501(c)3 charity that helps women who need mastectomy camisoles or have other needs after surgery.

A survivor from Friday's breakfast says events like this do save lives "I would like for everyone to come away knowing that we need to continue with the fight and remind everyone you know over ge 40 to have a screening mammogram because it saved my life," says breast cancer survivor Wendy Duheme.

The fundraiser is named in memory of Isabel Law, a founding member of the Mayor's Campaign Against Breast Cancer Committee and 26-year breast cancer survivor.
