CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Lawyers for the furniture store where nine Charleston fire fighters died three years ago are asking a judge to penalize the city for delays in turning over documents that might be used in lawsuits.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Friday that attorneys for Sofa Super Store have asked the city of Charleston to turn over 47,000 pages of documents about the 2007 fire.

Store attorneys say the city missed a July 15 deadline to provide the documents, which could be important in lawsuits filed against the store and its owners by the firefighters' families.

City attorney Sandy Seen says officials have been going through the documents as quickly as possible. She says they have to make sure no confidential information is released. Senn says thousands of pages of material already has been released.
